He hadn’t cried in our divorce. Not once.

But now, in front of his girlfriend and the Pacific Ocean and a child he never knew, he wept.

“I am,” he said. “I’m very sad.”

“Why?”

“Because I missed so much.”

Samuel thought about this, then held out the toy airplane. “You can hold my plane if you want. It makes me happy.”
