They were gone.

I stared at the empty hook. The little brass keychain with the enamel loon was missing.

I checked the tray on the hall table. I rummaged through my purse. I emptied every drawer in the kitchen.

Nothing.

“Mark,” I called, my voice tight, “have you seen the cabin keys?”
