I stood up so fast my chair fell over.

“You planned this,” I said. My voice didn’t even sound like mine.

Daniel opened his mouth. “Ray, please. There’s something you need to—”

“Don’t,” I said. “Don’t you dare.”

I walked out of that office and I did not look back. I never gave him the chance to finish that sentence. And that sentence, I would learn much later, held everything.
