“Would you like a warning now?” I asked sweetly.

Jessica’s eyes widened.

“What do you mean?” she whispered.

I held up my phone.

“I can reinstate the payments,” I said. “Or I can leave them canceled. But if I reinstate them, you will stop calling me a beggar. You will stop lying to this family. And you will start treating me with respect.”
