For thirty-two years, I gave my son every ounce of strength I had, and on the evening of his fortieth birthday, he handed me a worn suitcase and told me the guest room was now needed for storage boxes.

My name is Margaret Ellison, and I am sixty-nine years old.

My little cabin is full of light and laughter and the smell of fresh bread. The children still come on Saturdays.

At sixty-nine years old, after a lifetime of giving everything away, I have finally learned to keep a little something for myself.
