The girl fell into them like she’d run out of every ounce of strength.
Her tiny body shook with sobs.
I cut my engine and dismounted, moving closer.
Other riders did the same, forming a protective circle around Mack and the child.
You could feel the tension in the air, thick and electric.
Mack held her gently, his massive hand cradling the back of her head.
‘It’s okay, sweetheart,’ he said, his voice a low rumble. ‘You’re safe now. Nobody’s gonna hurt you.’
But the girl just shook her head violently, her little fingers clutching at the leather of his cut.
She was trembling so hard I could see it from ten feet away.
‘He’s coming,’ she whispered, her voice ragged with pure terror. ‘Please, don’t let him take me back.’
Her words landed like a punch to the gut.
I felt a cold chill crawl up my spine.
