A tear slipped down my cheek.

“Yes, Mama. It’s me. It’s your Maggie.”

“Maggie?” she repeated, frowning.

“My little girl… she wears ribbons in her hair. Red ribbons.”

I reached into my purse and pulled out a small red ribbon I always carried.

I gently tied it into a little bow and pinned it to the collar of my violet dress.
